Coornhert Gymnasium Gouda
Coornhert Gymnasium is a small grammar school located just outside the center of Gouda. The school provides daily education to a little over 700 students.
The school is named after the humanist Dirck Volkertszoon Coornhert, who spent the last years of his life in Gouda.
The history of Coornhert dates back to the 14th century and begins with a parish school located next to the Sint-Janskerk (the largest church in the Netherlands). Later, it was situated along the market at the current location of Arti Legi, which is now used for various COMUN committees. The school then moved to several locations in the center of Gouda, and by the late 16th century, it became a Latin school. Since 1890, Coornhert has taken its current form.
The most famous student of Coornhert is undoubtedly the theologian, philosopher, and humanist Desiderius Erasmus.
